環境科学研究科は、持続可能な社会の発展を支える科学技術と社会構造の構築に貢献し、鳥瞰的な視野をもって将来に向けて地球的規模の課題に取り組む高度な知識と能力を有する人材を育成することを目指しています。このため、各分野での深い専門性に加え、文系、理系という伝統的枠組みを越えた高度かつ総合的な教養を学習するためのカリキュラムや、国際社会において活躍できる能力を涵養するためのプログラムが用意されています。本研究科に所属する機械系研究室では、燃料電池や水素エネルギーなど分散型エネルギー技術の開発や、地殻内エネルギー資源等地殻の持つポテンシャルの高度利用技術など、機械工学と材料科学、あるいは地球科学との学際領域での研究を行なっており、これらを通じて地球環境とエネルギーの問題の解決に貢献しています。
